Monsieur Stendhal was a French hellraiser of note. Who is considered to be one of the earliest and foremost practitioners of realism.
Visiting Florence in the summer of 1817 he made his way to the Uffizi, and found himself “ in a sort of ecstasy, absorbed in the contemplation of sublime beauty, I had palpitations of the heart”.
And so Stendhal Syndrome was born. Known to very few, this odd little condition of the aesthetically susceptible is defined as “being overcome in the presence of extreme beauty”.
An experience that can border on the dreamlike, Mr Stendals Room is a cornucopia of beautiful visuals, inventive costumes, hats, masks and personalities.
